Fed Governor Waller Skeptical of Digital Dollar

(Reuters) – U.S. Federal Reserve Governor Waller on Wednesday reiterated his skepticism about the need for a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in the United States.

“For me, and for many people, the argument for hiring is still not convincing,” he said at an event at the Queensland University of Technology.┬áHe reiterates his view that the technology is of no use at this point.

Opinions are divided within the Fed on the necessity of introducing a CBDC, with Vice Chairman Brian Brainard and others expressing support.

The Fed, however, has signaled it won’t introduce a CBDC without explicit support from the White House and Congress.
